why IS THE POT LUCK lunch VEGAN THIS YEAR ?

We rent our space from JVS, which has just become the world's first Vegan Jewish Community Centre. As our hosts are vegan, therefore so is our pot luck. (Grassroots itself is not a vegan organisation). Julia our Kitchen Manager will be sharing lots of wonderful vegan recipes on the pot luck section of our website. Being vegan certainly doesn't mean missing out. In collaboration with JVS, we will be showcasing delicious and easy vegan recipes.

can I JUST SHOW UP ON THE DAY?

Sadly not! Grassroots tends to  sell out and the building has a maximum capacity, so we can't let more people in.  Everyone who wants to attend Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur services must have registered in advance.

My friend has registered for the event, but she is not planning on coming one particular morning and she says I can use her place. Can I?

Sadly not! Places at Grassroots 2018 are  strictly non-transferable. We do need to adhere to building  and fire safety regulations. Due to the fact that Grassroots has had a (fairly long) waiting list, it would not be fair to those people if others just show up on the day.

Can I sign up to the waiting list ?

We are sorry we are not longer able to accept any more people to the waiting list.

SINCE YOU'RE FULLY BOOKED CAN YOU RECOMMEND ANOTHER NICE PLACE TO GO ON THE HIGH HOLIDAYS ?

Yes! Some friends and members of Grassroots are running another minyan in the London NW3 area. Email us at grassrootsjews@gmail.com and we will send you the information.

WHICH MEMBERSHIP IS FOR ME?

Standard Membership is for those of us who are aged 16-65, and non-concession..
Concession Membership is strictly for those of us who are full time students, carers or homemakers, unemployed,  receiving Job Seekers Allowance, Disability Living Allowance, or Personal Independence Payment, or Retired and aged 65+.
FREE Membership is for those of us who are 15 years old and younger , and must be registered by a paying member. Hooray!

CAN I GET BY WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM MY FRIENDS?

Financial Aid: GRJ2018 does not seek to make a profit, but we have budgeted for a small pot to assist those of us who are in need. Please don't feel ashamed to ask - we all need help sometimes. Email us at grassrootsjews@gmail.com with 'Financial Aid' in the subject header.

i'm only coming for part of the event, can i pay a lower fee?

No, and there's a couple of reasons for that. Firstly, the community we create together begins now, and isn't over until the last piece of dust is swept up over Yom Kippur. Your Membership is for more than just Rosh Hashanah and/or Yom Kippur.   Secondly, we do not have the spare volunteer hours to oversee the demands of a complex variable ticketing process. Please do not buy concession fees, as they are for those of us who need that financial assistance.

WHY AM I - AND EVERYONE ELSE TOO - BEING ASKED TO SIGN UP TO A VOLUNTEER ROTA SHIFT ?

This year, GRJ membership is made up of both a volunteering and a financial contribution. We are doing this because GRJ is run by volunteers and we need tonnes of them to make it happen. Most of the volunteer shifts are things like: an hour on the kitchen crew, an hour on the welcome desk, or a couple of hours helping get the space ready before Rosh Hashana. In the past, the big job of creating these events has been carried by a small number of people, and we would dearly like to share the load and get a little help. It's really important that our core volunteers do not burn out, and we need to take care of them! Hopefully, if everyone does a little bit, we can all feel like we are in it together. We have a signup sheet for Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur - you only need to sign up to one or the other.

WHat does my money pay for?

GRJ runs on its own volunteer  power, but there are many things we have to hire and pay for, from the marquee and venue itself to enough chairs for everyone to sit on. We couldn't do it without our combined investment. Thank you so much!

IS THE BUILDING ACCESSIBLE FOR WHEELCHAIRS?

The building is about to have a refurbishment which will make it wheelchair accessible.  The are a few steps up and down to reach the marquee in the garden.  Please email us if you have further questions.

Is there a dresscode?

No, nothing specific. Some of us like to dress up in style, some of us like to relax in our slouchiest clothes. Come as you are.

WHEN IS GRJ2018?

GRJ2018 is happening right now! We are in the act of creating a unique experience of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, and learning, growing and be-friending each other as we go. If you mean, "when are the Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur services?", that'll be on the 10th, 11th, the evening of the 18th, and the 19th September 2018.
